What is BOTOX?

Dynamic wrinkles are the result of everyday facial expressions – squinting, laughing, smiling, and frowning – that is essentially involuntary. In the past, clients had to tolerate these marks of aging unless they wanted to undergo a facelift or other invasive procedure. Today, BOTOX helps reverse lines and creases so you can feel and look your best quickly and without a lengthy recovery.

How Does BOTOX Work?

BOTOX, a neuromodulator, is an FDA-approved cosmetic treatment used to reduce the lines, creases, and wrinkles that can make you look older than you feel. It works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that tells the brain to contract the facial muscles. Once the muscles are temporarily relaxed, the skin smoothes out, leaving you with a softer, more inviting complexion.

What Happens During my BOTOX Session?

BOTOX is a simple outpatient procedure that takes around 20 minutes to perform. During your consultation, we will create a treatment plan that zeroes in on your aesthetic concerns. This map will be used during your session to ensure precise, age-defying results. Your skin is cleansed, a numbing agent is applied, and then BOTOX is injected with an ultra-fine needle.

Afterward, a cold compress is applied to the skin to help minimize any swelling, bruising, or tenderness. You’ll be able to immediately leave the office and return to your normal activities.

Who is a Good Candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX is ideal for clients who are not quite ready for invasive plastic surgery but who are seeking more dramatic results than can be obtained through the use of over-the-counter creams, lotions, and serums. In younger clients, BOTOX can be used to prevent the signs of aging before they occur. Note that if you suffer from moderate to severe sagging skin, a surgical facelift may be a better solution for your needs. If you are struggling with deeper static creases in addition to dynamic lines, BOTOX can be combined with dermal fillers to comprehensively revitalize your look.

What Happens After BOTOX?

After BOTOX, you can expect to immediately resume your normal routine. Minor bruising, swelling, and tenderness may occur at the injection sites, but these side effects disappear quickly, usually by the end of the day. You’ll need to avoid strenuous activities for at least 24 hours.

At night, make sure you sleep with your head elevated and avoid touching, rubbing, or disturbing your skin, as this can cause the BOTOX to migrate from its intended location. Results can be seen during the first week after your session, and they will typically last 3-4 months, at which point you can repeat your treatment to maintain your newly rejuvenated appearance.
